Summary of the conference

Call for submission

In 2025, ELTE Bárczi Gusztáv Faculty of Special Needs Education is celebrating the 125th anniversary of special needs education teacher training in Hungary. The predecessor institution of the faculty was the first of its kind in the country, and ELTE Bárczi is eversince the leading scientific and teacher training institution of special education in Hungarian higher education.

We are therefore inviting our Erasmus+ partners from inside and outside Europe to celebrate this important year with us in the framework of an online scientific conference.

When? 19 June, 2025, 13.00-17.00 CET

Where? online on Zoom

We strongly believe that joining our scientific forces can promote a more equitable society, in which individuals with disabilities may reach their full potential. To this end, institutions of higher education need to facilitate and support the engagement of young researchers to carry out disability-related research projects.

We are pleased to invite PhD students learning at any of our partner institutions to present their doctoral research, related to individuals with disabilities, within one of the following broad topics:

1. Individuals with disabilities indiverse social contexts,
2. Complex challenges of social inclusion and social diversity in the twenty-first century,
3. Effects of disability on the individual’s quality of life,
4. Education and disability over the life span,
5. The power of technology in supporting people with disabilities,
6. Employment and employability of individuals with disabilities,
7. Access to culture, sport and tourism.

The online conference is a great opportunity for doctoral students for sharing their scientific contributions, gain new insights, and to get to know fellow students and academics for possible future professional networking.

We look forward to meeting many PhD students, their supervisors and other respected colleagues, having you all join us, to celebrate together with us.

The organizing committee:

Ms habil. Dr. Andrea Perlusz PhD (Vice dean for academic affairs)
Ms Judit Gombás PhD (associate professor)
Ms Gréta Kövecses (Erasmus+ coordinator)

Abstract submission

PhD students, learning at one of our official Erasmus+ partner universities, are invited to submit their abstract for an oral presentation. Presentations are 15 minutes long, with 5 additional minutes for questions and answers. Abstracts should introduce one aspect or the whole of the applicant’s disability-related doctoral research.

Submission deadline: 26 May, 2025, 12 PM CET

Notification to authors: 30 May, 2025

All abstracts will be peer reviewed by members of the scientific committee. ELTE Bárczi, as the organiser, wishes to involve the highest number of partner institutions in the conference. Therefore, a maximum of two abstracts will be accepted for presentation from each partner institution. Upon abstract selection, the scientific committee will choose a diverse pool of topics. In the case of similar topics, priority will be given to abstracts which:

  • fully meet the abstract submission criteria,
  • introduce novel research methods and findings,
  • comply with high scientific standards,
  • are written in proficient English.

The language of both abstract submission and oral conference presentation is English. All accepted abstracts will be included in the online conference proceedings. All presenters will be provided with an electronic certificate of participation. Both presentation and participation at the conference are free of charge.
