Dóra Liska, an employee of the International Office, spent a week in Galway, Ireland, through the Erasmus+ program.
I was delighted to find out in September, after starting my job, that not only students and teachers but also administrative staff at Bárczin could participate in Erasmus+ exchanges. So, as soon as I could, I signed up for an English language course in Ireland, specifically in Galway.
The aim of the lessons was to improve English language communication in professional settings. This included both oral and written skills. Due to the small number of participants, each session was intensive and extremely productive, and the persistent native language environment throughout the week made us more confident towards the end of the week, whether we wanted to or not. The teachers led the sessions with outstanding kindness and dedication, which absolutely raised the standard of the classes. In addition to learning various expressions and phrases, we also gained insight into Irish history and culture.
Galway is a real gem. Don't be put off by the possibility of rainy weather: the warm, friendly welcome from the locals more than makes up for it (a word of advice: rain is often accompanied by a sea breeze, so don't bother opening your umbrella, otherwise you'll just make the Irish laugh...). The cozy cafes and pubs, loud with laughter and singing, always welcome those escaping the weather with open arms. The city's architecture is wonderful, especially if you take the time to learn about its rich history.
The week I spent in Galway as part of the Erasmus+ program was extremely rewarding, both professionally and personally. A trip like this is much more than just a vacation: it is unique and unrepeatable. I highly recommend everyone—whether you are a teacher, student, or colleague—to give it a try and apply for an Erasmus+ scholarship. I am sure you will not be disappointed!
