Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) published its latest European university rankings on January 28, which this year included 958 higher education institutions from 42 countries based on 12 indicators. The QS European rankings are compiled using a methodology similar to that of the organization's other lists, with the difference that the assessment places greater emphasis on internationalization and mobility as important European values.
Based on the 2026 results, Eötvös Loránd University remains the best higher education institution in Hungary and ranks 6th in Eastern Europe. Our university ranks 194th on the overall list.
This year, ELTE achieved better results than 79.9% of the European institutions surveyed. In terms of individual indicators, our university ranks 76th among the European leaders in terms of graduate employment opportunities, 105th in terms of incoming student mobility, and 144th in terms of outgoing student mobility. It ranks 158th in academic recognition, 161st in employer reputation, 171st in sustainability, and 198th in international research collaboration.
This means that ELTE is not only the best in Hungary overall, but also in terms of academic reputation, employment opportunities, international research collaborations, and outgoing student mobility indicators, while it ranks second in terms of publication citations and third in terms of employer reputation incoming student mobility, and sustainability.
