"The biggest problem is that the right to learning for children with autism is not guaranteed in Hungary today." (A parent's subjective comment in the feedback field of a completed questionnaire)

The MTA-ELTE Autism Methodology Research Group (MASZK) is pleased to share the news that the Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders has recently published the comprehensive results of a quality-of-life survey involving more than 800 parents nationwide. In the questionnaire survey, the research team aimed to explore the quality of life of parents of individuals with autism (children and adults), examining the characteristics and care of the autistic individuals in relation to the well-being and quality of life of the parents. While there is a sense of excitement at the completion of the research, it is tempered by the duality that is clearly outlined in the review of the results: the quality of life of parents raising/supporting children/adults with autism in our country is a critical picture.

The significance of the research, therefore, in addition to its internationally prominent presence, can be found in the relevant professional results, in the understanding of the relationships that underpin support and influence the quality of life of parents, and in the results that are recommended for consideration by the Hungarian policy-makers, which, with the right openness and willingness, can be available as background data for the improvmet of the care system.

The research was supported by the MTA's Research Programme on Curriculum Pedagogy and Public Education Development. The publication is freely available and can be referred to at the following link.
