CWUR Ranking: ELTE Remains the Best Hungarian University in 2025

On 2 June, the Center for World University Rankings (CWUR) published its 2025 global university ranking, evaluating over 21,000 universities, of which only 2,000 made it onto the list of the world’s top higher education institutions. Since 2012, CWUR has assessed universities based on the quality of education, alumni employment outcomes, faculty excellence, the number of highly cited publications, and research impact. You can read more about the methodology in English on this link.
In 2025, Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE) jumped 36 places compared to its ranking the previous year, now ranking 508th globally and 196th in Europe. This places ELTE among the top 2.4% of universities worldwide, and according to CWUR, it has maintained its leading position in Hungary since 2014.
